This page explains DG Cricket’s safeguarding approach and how to raise a concern. It supports, rather than replaces, the safeguarding arrangements of any school, club or venue hosting a session.
1. Our commitment
DG Cricket aims to provide cricket coaching that is safe, positive, inclusive and appropriate to each player’s age and stage. David Goodchild is DBS checked and safeguarding qualified. Safeguarding concerns are taken seriously, recorded appropriately and referred when necessary.
2. Coaching standards
DG Cricket expects coaches and anyone working on its behalf to:
- put the welfare of children and adults at risk first;
- maintain professional boundaries and use age-appropriate coaching;
- avoid humiliating, discriminatory, threatening or sexualised behaviour;
- use physical contact only where appropriate, explained and necessary for safe coaching;
- work in suitable, observable environments and follow venue procedures;
- respond calmly to disclosures and never promise absolute confidentiality; and
- report and record concerns through the appropriate route.
3. Parents, guardians and communication
Booking and routine coaching communication for a player under 18 should be through the parent or guardian. Parents and guardians should provide accurate emergency contact details, tell DG Cricket about information needed for safe participation, and raise any concern promptly.
Images or identifiable player information should not be published by DG Cricket without an appropriate permission process. Parents should also follow the photography and safeguarding rules of the venue, club or school.
4. How to report a safeguarding concern
Immediate danger or a crime in progress: call 999.
Do not delay an emergency report while waiting for DG Cricket to respond.
For a concern connected with DG Cricket, email info@dgcricket.com with the subject “Safeguarding concern”. Include what happened, when and where it happened, who was involved and how you can be contacted. Do not investigate the matter yourself or confront the person concerned.
A child or young person who is worried should speak to a trusted adult. They can also use the independent contacts below.
5. What DG Cricket will do
DG Cricket will listen, make a factual record, consider immediate safety, preserve confidentiality on a need-to-know basis, and refer the concern to the appropriate venue safeguarding lead, local authority, police, Cricket Regulator or other safeguarding body where required. It may not be possible to share every detail of an investigation or referral.

- Police non-emergency: 101. Use 999 for immediate danger.
- Local authority children’s services: contact the authority where the child lives when advice or a referral is needed.
